Beached Whale

After discovering an abandoned artwork at a thrift store, I decided to enhance it by incorporating a disaster theme. I sketched out three different disaster concepts: the evolution of man, addiction, and a beached whale. Among these ideas, I found the concept of the beached whale to hold the most potential, especially considering the original artwork depicted a serene landscape. While many associate “disaster” with fires and explosions, I opted to portray the sorrow and anguish of a stranded and dying whale using watercolor. This juxtaposition highlights the stark contrast between the beauty of the original landscape and the tragic plight of the creature.
