Children's Book
Book Redesign
The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton exemplifies the profound impact of illustrations in children’s literature. This redesign focuses on bringing nighttime to life, with a calming color palette of muted blues and yellows on the cover. Each illustration within the book serves as a captivating portal into the enchanting world of bedtime, engaging young readers and stimulating their imagination. These illustrations play a vital role in storytelling, nurturing language development, and fostering a lifelong love for reading, highlighting the importance of children’s book illustration in shaping young minds.
Inclusivity shines through the illustrations depicting diverse characters engaging in pre-bedtime activities. Each page features characters of multiple skin colors, offering young readers a representation of different backgrounds. These inclusive illustrations not only reflect the beauty of diversity but also foster a sense of belonging and acceptance from an early age. By showcasing a range of skin tones, the illustrations encourage young children to embrace differences and celebrate diversity. This design nurtures empathy and understanding among the youngest of readers.
Crafting the “star babies” as friendly and welcoming characters was a process driven by the desire to create relatable figures that make kids feel safe and engaged in the story. Through the use of simplicity in design, drawing from personal experiences and observations of children’s preferences, I focused on soft, rounded shapes and gentle expressions to convey warmth and approachability. Diverse features and personalities were incorporated to ensure that every child could see themselves reflected in the characters. By infusing traits like curiosity, kindness, and a sense of adventure, the “star babies” became relatable companions for young readers, fostering a connection to the story and a sense of comfort and companionship within its pages
